It's made to endure water, goop and grime. These are also coated for the coloring. Kershaw makes good stuff, these won't rust. **Q: Do these cutt sweet potatoes easily?** A: I havent cut SWEET POTATOES yet but I cut a regular potatoe just fine. **Q: Has anyone had to sharpen these knives yet? If so what did you use? Trying to see if anything works better than a whet stone to re-obtain the edge?** A: No.. they are cheap knives not meant to be sharpened. Chefs talk about using these types of knives and throwing them away and buying new ones because of their price. The set contains every knife you could need for all cooking & prep work. The only knife I wish had been included in this set is the sandwich knife which I use frequently, but I just purchased it separately.PROS-Very sharp! These knives are just as high quality (if not, higher quality) than some of the more expensive upscale knife sets you can purchase.-Love the colors!-Easy to clean (handwash only though!)-Awesome price!CONS-I wouldn't consider this a con myself, but if you are looking for a complete set of knives (including steak knives) this probably isn't the set for you. If you don't mind having separate sets of steak knives and cooking knives then you will be okay with this set.-Personally I think the knife block you can buy for these is hideous so if you want a block this probably isn't the best set to get. They work very well, and he enjoys using them, but the handles are really small. When I first gave them to him, he slipped and cut himself a couple of times when using them because he found it hard to get a comfortable grip on them. These knives are very sharp! I would say these are better suited for someone with small to average to hands. The handles are a bit too small for someone with larger hands to comfortably and safely use them. Other than that, they are really good knives. I have used them to cut through chicken bones and other tough foods, and they are really effective. As other reviewers have said, they are lightweight and attractive.
