The pinch grips add a lot of versatility

This is a excellent gripper. Build quality is as good as I've seen from any fitness device. It comes with both a set of detachable extension ends and a set of detachable extension ends with paddles. The former provides an intermediate weighting or a longer compression stroke for people with large hands. The latter allows for a variety of motions (e.g., pinch squeeze, crimping) more difficult to perform with a conventional gripper.Compared to Captains of Crush:* Significantly thinner grips* Knurling seems about the same, perhaps a bit more aggressive* Subtle, viscous feel to the compression stroke. Reminds me of the oil-filled RC car suspensions I used to assemble.* Range of motion ends when the two grips are parallel; the bottom remains separated by 1/4"* More accurate weight measurementscannonpowerworks[dot]com /pages/grip-strength-ratings-dataI want to elaborate on accuracy. You'll notice in the link above that all of the Captains of Crush grippers are consistently about 40% less difficult than the weights at which they're rated. Not these GD grips. Cross-referencing the relative difficulty of the CoC and the GD with that chart suggests the measurements printed on the GD are accurate.Which means you probably don't want the black 90kg GD. The presets on this 80kg red version, in pounds, are: 55, 79, 104, 128, 152, 176. Those correspond to CoC Trainer, #1, #2, #2.5, #3, and #3.5. The top rating on the black version is nearly a CoC #4, of which like a half-dozen people have ever closed. I'm over six feet with large hands and I've been climbing for years. I can just barely close this GD on the 128 setting. At the top setting, I can't get the ends closer than an inch apart. The CoC grippers are still more difficult at the same (actual) poundage because they're thicker and that last 1/4" to bring the bars together adds a significant challenge. But if you're not chasing an official record, none of that matters. This GD is as much of a challenge as you're likely to ever need, and the shorter increments relative to the black version make for a better progression.

Got 4 yrs use before it broke

I love that it is adjustable. That feature allowed me to progress up to the highest setting ( w slight assistance from my off hand) over a couple of years. It us also quiet compared to many other grippers, which made it easy to use while watching tv w my partner.I owned these for around 4 years, using them 2-3 days a week until the handle broke yesterday. Metal finger side of the handle snapped right off at highest setting. The only maintenance problem I had before that was after around 1 yr if use the mechanism started to squeak. A little oil took care of that no problem.I think this is a great buy for progressing up to different weights. However, if your hands are already really strong you may want to look elsewhere. Based on my experience I’m not sure how long this would last if you are doing high reps on the highest setting. I was doing 2 sets of 5 on that level when it snapped.

Great piece of equipment for Crush Grip training.

*by W***L on Reviewed in the United States on December 23, 2018*

This gripper is a well designed tool. The knurl is moderately aggressive but not too sharp. It will hold chalk. The gripper is a very nice tool that conveniently performs the functions of several crush and pinch grippers. The extensions act as intermediate steps between each spring setting for a total of ten settings. The paddle handles for pinch grip are broader than they appear in many of the photos. They are very stable and do not rotate in your fingers when used. Like the extension handles they lock down right with provided Allan wrenches. Even though I lift weights and have played guitar for years, even the easiest settings are difficult making it very difficult to get started with pinch training. What i really hate is the really aggressive autocorrect function in this sight that seems to have a very limited vocabulary. It keeps changing words I'm typing correctly to incorrectly spelled words that often aren't related to the word I was typing, require me to start many words over because it keeps changing them, and keeps changing that first I in this paragraph to i got some reason. It makes many reviewers seem less intelligent than they probably are. It is frustrating and results in wasted time. I suspect it limits the number of reviews from persons unwilling to fight against it. I know I hate to type reviews because of it even though many products warrant a review.
