My plan is to find the ones I use the most, then over time, replace the with top quality bits. Some people have complained about the bits being scattered all over the box during shipping. I didn't have that issue. The manufacturer is now putting some sort of adhesive on the shafts, so they stay in place. The down side to that is they REALLY stay in place. Use extreme caution removing them, as they are very well stuck in the case holes. I am using an adhesive remover to clean each one. I have also built a bit case that fits my needs & I oversized the holes slightly so they are easy to get in & out. The bits I have used so far seem to be sharp & cut well. I'm guessing they will dull over time, but for a little over $2 each, I am okay with that. There are TWO reasons for reducing blade speed: 1) to avoid burning the wood/blade and 2) to keep larger blades from spinning apart. If you're using <=1" dia blades you can pretty much disregard the spinning apart bit. I've been a professional woodworker for a dozen years and here's what I do: Check the manufacture's recommended blade speed, to get me in the ballpark. Then start cutting at around that speed. If the cut is rough, I'll increase the speed a bit. If there's burning, I'll reduce the speed. CRITICAL ISSUES will be when you change the wood feed rate (how fast you're plowing through the material), and when you change direction of cutting related to the grain (routing around rounded corners, changing routing angles). If you're routing along the grain, there's minimal resistance on the blade, but as you go around corners or change angles you'll be going cross-grain which increases resistance. Resistance=Heat. Every cut is different. Every wood is different. Go slow and shallow, but NOT too slow, and always watch the cut so you can speed up or slow down as needed. Also, for the advanced woodworker, there's the 'climb cut' (going backwards), which generally creates a whole lot less heat, but can be VERY dangerous. **Q: how well and long do the bearings last ....I have some that last one cut ?** A: Mine are 1/2" shank. Not sure about your 1/4" bits but mine are still good as new. **Q: Can it cut aluminum** A: You can but the feed rate must be Very Slow. They may not be as good as Freud bits that cost $30 to $40 each, but they're definitely worth the price of this set. My intention was to have the storage box and the large selection of common router bits and then replace the most used ones with really good Freud bits when they wear out.
