The area around the binding shows some wear and the front/back covers have some crinkling marks, but it is still very sound and has held up wonderfully! **Q: Are these pages water resistant like Rite in the Rain brand products?** A: The "Kraft" books are regular paper and not water resistant. We do make the "Expedition" edition, available here: http://www.amazon.com/Field-Notes-FNC-17-Expedition-3Pk/dp/B00AQO8Q88 Expedition is made from waterPROOF (not just water-resistant!) and tear-proof Yupo synthetic paper (actually a plastic substrate) so, (being waterproof) it doesn't absorb ink from a felt-tip pen (it will smear). A regular ballpoint pen or a pencil will work great. **Q: How does the paper in the notebooks take to being written on by fountain pens?** A: You'll see "50#T Finch Opaque" in other comments, but we've recently upgraded all our Kraft-cover books to 60#T, which is better for fountain pens. We have a lot of fountain pen fans who love our books, but we hate to say "they work great" because there are infinite combinations of pens, nibs, and inks... We do have other editions with different papers that you might prefer, there are threads on various forums discussing this, some with writing samples.
