Filing the black plastic guides ?** A: Are you referring to the straight cutter or the angled cutter? Either way I would NOT modify the product. I tested mine and found that with the angled cutter there is some drag but a little wax on the guiderail should handle the problem. If you're storing it in high humidity environment it may be the causative factor. I hope this will help. Bill **Q: Will this cut a 3/16 inch mounting board?** A: I own a 440-1, and if you mean 3/16 foam core - yes, the mat knife will allow you to cut this type of mounting board to size with a perpendicular cut. Just in case, I've never tried to do a bevel cut into mounting board, but I have a feeling that's not what you want to do. Make sure not to over-tighten the screw on the mat knife, I learned the hard way.
