(Well the real company name is BelOMA). BelOMA and Zeis together created a company to manufacture the lenses using their shared technology. These days the glass comes from Germany and the loupes are assembled in Belarus. Amateur Geologist, Inc is the sole licensed North American Importer for the BelOMO loupes. **Q: My new 15x has the top lens about 1/2 inch down into the barrel. Is this ok?** A: That is why it is one sided. While you can look at an object both ways with a Nikon or a Bausch&Lomb loupe, it is not possible with this. The case is so poorly designed that this loupe does not have symmetry. If you hold it one way, you can see an object underneath the loupe. On the other hand this loupe gets blind if you flip around. **Q: Is the loupe supposed to reflect a 180° rotated image?** A: Eric, I sent you the instruction sheet we include with the BelOMO 12x, 15x, and 20x. The simple answer is no, the image will look normal but magnified. Think of a loupe as a microscope, binoculars, or even eyeglasses. The eye is placed almost in the lens. The closer the lens is to the eye the more of the magnification is retained. Just imagine holding binoculars a foot or two away from the eyes. You don't really see much, it's not really magnified, and it's flipped upside down. A loupe works the same way. You've probably seen movies where a jeweler fits a loupe into the eye socket when examining a gem. This is why. **Q: Can you attach a lanyard to this loupe?** A: Amateur Geologist has had lanyards made for the loupe. Actually, any 3/4'' flat lanyard will work. Anything else will work with an adapter such as a bit of 3/4'' ribbon slipped though the loupe and tied to whatever end you lanyard has. The lanyard we sell have a split ring attachment which I"m sorry that I ever left on the loupe. People try to use it and it's not designed for that purpose and will damage the loupe. The point is that at the end of every lanyard there's the place where the attachment is sewn in. In our case it's the spit ring. I remove a screw from the BelOMO loupe's support post. I then slide the end of the lanyard holding the split ring over the post and return the screw. It's really best to provide some treatment to keep the screw from working loose but this isn't a pivot point so that's not really necessary. Hopefully the vendor from which you ordered the loupe has treated all the screws to keep them from working loose during normal usage. I've also introduced the Lanyard, Deluxe BelOMO Woven Logo, 3/4in Nylon with Quick Release Buckle which is designed to be install on the BelOMO loupe without removing a screw.
