The camera is built not to accept a battery. It works with its electrical cord plugged in to an electrical outlet. The camera monitor can work with its electrical cord plugged in only if its battery is installed; the battery alone works, without its electrical cord plugged in, as long as the battery has enough charge to power on. **Q: Can you use this with the DXR-5 model?** A: I don't think this battery is compatible with DXR-5. I have a DXR-5 and it looks different than all the other customer photos. And it doesn't connect, so that's kind of the end of the line. **Q: The battery will not hold a charge. Why** A: In 3 years we have been through about 3-4 batteries. Eventually they just lose the ability to hold a charge. You can buy a battery separate from Infant Optics. It's not ideal because an expensive monitor becomes more expensive with the addition of each new battery. **Q: The monitor won’t show a picture, only gives the screen saying…Warning out of signal coverage** A: It also issues a high pitched beep. Step closer to the unit you are monitoring. My system worked poorly in a brick home, but works wonders in a standard frame home.
