Review: Effective and Not Expensive, But Make Sure It Will Fit Your Drill - Effective and economical degasser (I paid $20). Long enough (about two feet) for standard carboys/buckets. Seems to effectively degas six gallons of wine in about two or three minutes using a drill at medium speed and changing spinning direction every 30 seconds. Easy to clean/sanitize and so far feels fairly durable, especially for the price. As a side note, I use the glass carboys, so I sort of cover the opening of the carboy when extracting the degasser to prevent splatter. My only issue was the rod was too thick for one of my cordless drill's chuck, so make sure it will fit your drill before purchasing. If you have a quick change chuck drill, you can buy a keyless drill chuck adapter, but again make sure the adapter will fit at least a 10mm or 3/8 inch bit to be able to hold this degasser.
Review: Works as promised and is far easier to keep clean ... - Works as promised and is far easier to keep clean than the bottle brush that I had used for the same purpose. In my use, I've noticed that you want to hold it up off the bottom of the carboy or it will begin to bend in very odd ways. It will also begin to bend if you run the drill at very high speeds. It takes two hands to insert into the neck of a carboy (one to hold the drill and one to squeeze the green filaments together a bit). Finally, the shaft is not strong enough to support the weight of the drill as it sticks out the top of a carboy. That means you can leave it there without holding it while you wait for the bubbles to go down before another spin. With regards to the bottle brush mentioned above: before I came along this, I had cut the loop off the end of a new bottle brush. Then you can chuck the wire stem in a drill and use it the same as this tool. It may even work more quickly, but the big draw back is that it's far more difficult to clean and sanitize than this tool. I have no plans to go back to my old method and until I can afford a vacuum setup, will stick with this handy tool.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Just ordered one and wondering what is the recommended use for wine? How long and many times before bottling per batch, let rest before bottling, etc**
A: You should follow your wine kit's recommendation. In general, you will use this 10 days after you have racked your wine from a primary to secondary fermenter. You will add your Potassium Metabisulphite and Potassium Sorbate, at that time you will want to use this (and I would suggest using a drill) to stir up the wine/sediment. Most wine kits tell you to stir for 90 seconds, which is fine if you use this and a drill...but you can go a bit less than this since the kits assuming you are using a spoon. Be careful to not over stir and cause the wine to foam out of the carboy though. It's not an exact science, since you want to remove any residual C02, but you don't want to introduce too much O2. After your 90 seconds (or whatever), you will want to add the clarifier to the mix and then again, stir for another recommended 90 seconds (this one you can definitely cheat on and go less, since you are just trying to get the stuff mixed in). As per your wine kit's recommendation, you probably want to cap and age at least another 10 days before bottling. As always, sanitize your equipment at all stages to prevent cross contamination.

**Q: If its good to oxygenate beer wort, how could it possibly be good to also use to degas wine, when you dont want oxygen getting mixed in???**
A: When making wine, after fermentation is complete, the wine is loaded with dissolved carbon dioxide. This gas must be driven out of the wine, or it will taste slightly carbonated, and will not clear properly. If you use this in the presence of co2, which is heavier than air, there will be no problems.
In beer, you would use this before fermentation. After boiling most oxygen is gone due to boiling action and heat. This will help mix in air before adding yeast.

**Q: How many inches tall is it? Is this tall enough to work well in a 5-gallon carboy? How about a 3-gallon carboy? I don't seem to see dimensions listed.**
A: Thank you for your inquiry. The clean bottle express degasser is approximately 24 inches long. It works great in a 5 and 3 gallon carboy.

**Q: how many carboys cam whit the item**
A: Thank you for your inquiry. Carboys are not included with the clean bottle express wine/beer degasser.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works exactly as intended
*by C***E on June 15, 2021*

There's really not too much to this. Simply made, works exactly like it's supposed to, easy to use, seems pretty durable and the price is great in case it breaks. All around a great degasser! For cleanup, which was the most fun part, I just dipped it in the sink of starsan and water and spun the drill. Easy peasy!
