The rotisserie setup allows the board to be turned without removing it from the spring-loaded clamp, but it can also be locked using the set-knob. Simply insert the PCB and rotate it to have the component side up, insert one or more components and then just rotate the board in the rotisserie, solder the components and rotate it again to place additional components. There is no need to remove the board between each round because the clamps allow for easy rotation (which can be locked down). The unit will accomodate boards of varying width by moving one or both of the uprights along the bar, all the way up to 9 inch wide PCBs. Review: change the knobs to levers add gas struts to raise the hold arms higher. - ordered some m8 x 16 mm quick release levers works great going to modify the arms to extend up to rework taller boards when need maybe use a mini gas strut with level to rase them. smooth so far good product just needed some small changes done for what I need it for . Review: Good value for the price - Very nice pcb holder for the price and at a lower cost than other sources I found. The black parts are tubular steel with a decent weight and rubber bumper feet on the bottom to hold the board in place while inserting parts and soldering. The blue arms are molded plastic and have a slight side to side wiggle but with a board inserted, that wiggle disappears. The cavity where the spring is seated could be damaged by the end of the spring as it rotates so I added a washer in the bottom of the cavity to prevent the spring from scraping the bottom. Of course I guess you can replace the cross bar to make it wider but I haven’t tried that **Q: Is this holder wider than the [aven 17010 adjustable circuit board holder] that is also sold on amazon ?** A: No, from what I can make out they are exactly the same. **Q: Is it ESD safe?** A: I think it's not ESD; There is nothing on the packaging about it. But, I believe a dissipative blanket, anti-static gloves and wristbands are mandatory in any service. **Q: Are the clamps that hold the pcb in plastic or metal, and is there any plastic at all? i need to know if this is good for hot air rework.** A: On mine, the clamps are made of cast metal, painted black on the outer surfaces. I could see some light colored material on the hollow part, so I removed the retaining clip and pulled the clamp out to get a better look at the inside. I tapped it with a scribe and gave it a little scratch. However, they are NOT threaded into the plastic body like another review said, the threads of all four knobs have a metal nut that they thread through, you may be able to see it in one of my photos. The black rails are metal capped with black plastic and have rubber feet, the blue uprights are plastic, the knobs are plastic with metal threads, the PCB holders look to be cast aluminum. The fixed PCB holder does rub against the blue plastic upright when you rotate the PCB, so there may be some eventual wear but does operate smoothly. I have no buyer's remorse over this purchase and feel it will do the job nicely.
