## Description

Make your existing speakers wireless with Amphony's wireless speaker kit.

Review: So much for so little - This Amphony 1700 is quite a potent little package. I was looking for a way to get music to my back garage. I spend a lot of time there working on my cars and tractors and the local radio stations leave a lot to be desired. I decided to look into wireless transmission. I have a total distance of 85' from transmitter to receiver, in a separate building. The 1700 offers an amplified receiver which eliminates the need for a separate amp in the garage. It is rated at 100' through walls which is more than some of the more expensive units. I've not had good luck in the past with advertised ranges for other wireless devices so I contacted a seller (HIFI Corner) and asked if they thought it would work for my conditions. They said it should but, if not, I could return it, so, I ordered it. Boy am I glad I did ! Although 85' is probably its building to building limit, with careful positioning and aiming, the sound quality is excellent. I'm driving two way, double chamber reflex speakers ( w/ 8" woofers, 5" h/f drivers) with the 40W x 2 receiver/amp. I was expecting a tinny, AM radio sound (which would have been acceptable) but the sound is rich and colorful - a splendid surprise. Now I can hear any of my music, CDs, vinyl, cable music stations, in its full glory while my hands are covered with grease and oil up to my elbows. For my installation (at the limit) I found that mounting units as high as possible helps. This is a new installation and I hope it will last a long time. UPDATE: It's March 2019. After 2 1/2 years, the 1700 is still working fine, no problems. I've just added a second receiver for my shop in the basement. It, of course, works fine because it doesn't challenge the limits of range. I'm still amazed at the sound quality. I couldn't find a seller for the receiver (R1700) alone and the Amphony Web Shop doesn't accept PayPal on their web page. I contacted Amphony.com and they were happy to charge my order to PayPal. It's a very good company to do business with and their products are top notch. (I do hope they will include PayPal in the future)
Review: AVOID!!!! AVOID!!!!! AVOID!!!!! - This is the worst review I've ever written for a product. While there have been some bad reviews for these speaker kits, I've tended to ignore them assuming that people's expectations for a product such as this shouldn't be too high. Also, people who love things and people who hate things are the most likely to take the trouble to write reviews. People who are simply satisfied may not be motivated enough to write. So, the story is that like anyone interested in wireless speakers, I wanted to get rid of the wires running across my living room floor from the receiver to the surround speakers at the opposite side of the room. Some months ago, I bought my first Amphony wireless speaker device. I barely used it before it finally stopped working. However, that was maybe a year or more from the date of purchase and the warranty expired. My bad luck. Assuming that first experience was a fluke, I ordered a second speaker kit. I barely used it and the transmitter failed after a few weeks, still within the warranty period. I contact Amphony and received a reply relatively promptly offering a warranty replacement or refund. I wrote back saying that since this is my second bad unit in a row, I'll take the refund. Since then they have been silent even though I've contacted them a couple more times. I also contacted the seller (not desertcart) who has also been ignoring me entirely. After contemplating the speaker wire problem for a while, I realize that my best solution is to carefully drill some holes in the floor and run wires in the crawlspace. I would try Bluetooth speakers, but I have an older audiophile system and hate to replace the speakers with potentially inferior sounding ones. Hence, I'm stuck with wires for a while. As for the sound when the Amphonys were working: OK at best. Lots of pops, issues with dropped signals, distortion and certainly not high fidelity at all. However, I would have lived with that if they were not cheaply manufactured junk. Net-net I'm out $200 or so and experienced a lot of aggravation.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: If two speakers require a minimum of 40w each, will this unit be enough to drive both speakers sufficiently or will there be issues at higher volumes?**
A: There are a lot of variables in that question, but in general, this amp should be alright. If your speakers have inefficient drivers it may get warm or even begin to clip at higher volume levels. In the end, keep your expectations realistic. This is not a high end 200 watt per channel, wired amp. I am running it for my rear stage on a Samsung Blue ray combo and it is plenty loud for a surround channel. Overall a good sounding alternative to running wires. Much better than cheaper models like the Rocketfish brand.

**Q: Do I need two receivers to enable a pair (two) of speakers wireless?**
A: No, one receiver can handle two speakers (mine enables the use of both rear speakers).

**Q: How long/thick is the power cord for the receiver? The outlet is 5ft below where I want to put the amp and I want to hide the cord in the corner.**
A: The power cord is around 5.9 feet long and the thickness is 3.5mmx1.5mm. So you should be good.

**Q: can you run this in your vehicle?**
A: Probably not. The receiver/amp requires 36 VDC which wouldn't normally be available in a vehicle(except maybe an electric car). You could probably rig a voltage regulator for the transmitter that only requires 7.5 VDC @ 1 amp.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Worked well for 4 years
*by E***Z on December 14, 2021*

I bought my first Amphony wireless speaker kit 5 years ago to connect my surround speakers and avoid running cables through walls & ceilings. The system was easy to install and the sound from my speakers was excellent. Unfortunately, several months ago the sound from my rear speakers started to break up. I tried all of the suggestions in the user manual to correct the problem which could be caused by interference. None of these solutions worked so I order a new kit. As soon as I replaced the transmitter, the problem was corrected, with no need to replace the amplifier. One possible cause of the failure was due to leaving the transmitter being plugged in all the time. As one Comment suggested, the transmitter can be plugged into the switched outlet on your receiver, if you have that option, to extend the life. My current Yamaha receiver does not have that option so I will try to unplug it manually when not in use.
