It washes up well, too. I have worn it in temperatures just below zero and in wind. It does a very good job blocking the wind and holding in the heat. One note on sizing: I’m 5’9”, about 165lbs. and I went with the large, tall version because it was all I could find at the time. This led to some difficulty zipping it up as the zipper is a few inches below my normal reach. The large size works well over my insulated overalls, but I would try to get a regular length next time to avoid stressing the zipper and myself. People at work won't shut there pie holes on how great the coat looks. It's very warm. Seriously. For as thin as it is, It has kept me warm so far this fall season in tropical Michigan. Word of caution to potential buyers of this coat: People may think you work for Caterpillar. Had a gentleman approach me and tell me that he use to service caterpillar equipment and shook my hand. I thought at first he was just reminiscing about his days of working for the company. Then he asked me if "Dave" still worked there. I said, "wait, who?" That's when it dawned on this gentleman that i was in fact just an imposter, poser if you will. He walked away confused and i think he muttered something under his breath about how i wasted 12 seconds of his life or something. Poor guy. Does this coat keep someone warm in 0 degree weather** A: I got one for my son as he's going to Korea to visit his family this winter. it is made well and he describes it as being overly hot to wear in 50 degree(Fahrenheit) weather.the main issue is with the fitting, allow me to explain. the "cut" of the parka is exact and precise. so a size 2XLT is literally that size. there is no excess room for layering. if you're a men's small/medium/large/xl and you are just going to wear normal clothing under it, stick to your size. but if you are planning to wear a sweater, vest or "hoodie" under it as layers, then go one up in size. hope this helps. **Q: Most people here say to get one size larger, i typically wear large with shirts/jackets, should i get the medium for this?** A: Check the size chart. Mine fit exactly as specified, the real trick is getting the right arm measurements for you. I found when ordering mine that for a comfortable fit in T-shirts so they are long enough I get a 2XL just for the length since I am 6'6" but for this jacket I ordered a 1X and it was fine. Just measure yourself and look at the chart you should be fine. If you are between sizes though or close between sizes you might want to go bigger rather than smaller in case you decide to layer under it. It might just show that Caterpillar doesn't know exactly how to measure its jacket size but this isn't meant to be a slimline fit jacket by any means. It is a little bigger with a little more room. So that might be why 1X worked for me in this jacket but 2X works for me in most shirts. **Q: Do you look like an elevator repair man or a parks dept. employee in this?** A: More like construction...hence the words "CAT" stitched to the jacket. And its heavy duty look adds to that concept. However who cares, your warm. Elevator repair men work indoors in warmth, they do not wear jackets like this, unless their smart. I have only seen them in t shirts. This jacket has served me in temperatures as low as 0°F. I owned a green version of this same coat in previous years, and it never wore out. No issues with zippers breaking, tears, or anything else. The old coat is still perfect. After losing 130 pounds, I needed to find something that fit better and made me look less like David Byrne in every music video he did in the 80's. I downsized from a 4X to an XL. It fits like a glove and is warm. I still have room to wear a fleece hoodie underneath it for added warmth in the Minnesota winters. The oversized coat allowed for too much wind circulation beneath the jacket. The properly sized one does not have this issue. That is not the fault of the coat. That is all on the purchaser. Make sure you buy the right size. There are like 14 pockets in this thing! My biggest problem with that is trying to remember which of the pockets I put which belongings in. That is not a complaint. I love being able to have pockets to carry everything around. I just have to improve my recall to remember what went where. The hood is fully removable with a zipper. This is a personal favorite of mine because most winter jackets (including this one) makes a terrible racket when donning the hood. Hearing aides pick up the sound even more. I only use the hood on extremely cold days, and rely on a double-knitted beanie and scarf most of the time. (Did you know that -40 celcius is the same as -40 fahrenheit? I learned that firsthand by living in Minnesota.) The reflective stripe is a nice addition for walking the dog. Since it is dark when I arrive at work and dark before I leave work, the reflective stripe is a nice addition to remain visible without looking like a construction worker. Buy this coat.
