We check caps before shipping, but if you saw crystals on the stick when you opened it, it may have been jostled during shipping and loosened up. Adding a product seal is a smart idea and would help prevent that - thanks for suggesting it. And sorry, I should have said there is a very tiny amount of silica in the product, (it's listed last in the ingredients) but it's actually the Urea that forms crystals. There is no silica in the stick, but Urea can develop fine crystals when exposed to air. If the cap is left off or loose between uses, you may see crystals on the surface of the stick which then can fall off when opening the stick.
