It's been running non-stop for several months now, and while there's some occasional variation in the readings, and I do apply smoothing filters to the readings and calculations, it's otherwise doing exactly what I intended it to do at this price point! Your mileage may vary, as this is a component made for any number of ultrasonic sensing applications well beyond my usage. However, during commissioning of my project and testing on static surfaces, the measurements (in meters raw) provided from the module data pin were spot on with my actual field measurements. I cut off enough of the narrow end of the plastic horn, until the sensor fit snugly. The abrupt end of a narrow tube may create an echo of its own (due to impedance mismatch), and furthemore sound may bend around sharp edges. The data coming out is gibberish and unusable. My guess, the electronics are not designed to handle minor ESD events.
