The ME110 assumes the mantle of the younger, more athletic, brother of our better known precision edge testers. As the measuring component in our ID50 system, the ME110 is already at work in industry measuring everything from biopsy punches to carpet tufting knives to vegetable choppers. The ME110 has the same single digit precision of our more mature knife edge testers but packs in a lot more flexibility. For starters the ME110 swivels 360ΒΊ on its horizontal axis. This capability allows the measurement head to be swung out and over many existing bench mounted vises that the user may have available. This extends the capability of the tester to measure the sharpness of items like wood chisels or turning tools in woodworking shops or cutting tools in machine shops. The standard ME110 vise accommodates edges up to 3/8" wide and has a magnetic base for fast and easy edge positioning. The measurement head is adjustable on the horizontal axis as well as allowing measurements to be taken at multiple locations without repositioning the edge or vise. We're still not done though. A 5.5" extension is included that greatly extends the ME100's ability to measure tall edges. Like all EOU testers the ME110 conforms to the BESS (Brubacher Edge Sharpness Scale) standard. The BESS allows quantified sharpness data to be compared and transmitted without ambiguity. The ME110, like the balance of our precision line, is a pure analog sensor front end that requires the addition of weight (mass) at the piston platen in order to acquire sharpness data. The added mass is then weighed with a minimum capacity 2,000 gram scale (gram scale not provided) to express a BESS score. The standard ME110 package includes a 5.5" extension, test media, and 500 grams of lead shot.
