The felt base to make your puzzle on comes in a cardboard tube with 2 velcro strips. Make your puzzle and use the cardboard tube to roll the puzzle up. I used the 2 velcro strips on the ends so pieces had no chance of coming out. I made a third velcro strip (my suggestion) to use in the middle to secure the full puzzle. Also, it comes with a puzzle box top holder which does NOT work! It tips over the minute you let loose of it. Not a fan of that. But the mat easily rolls up and keeps my puzzle away from my cat, which was why I bought it. During my beach vacation I worked a 1,000 piece puzzle for 5 days working on two different tables. This was all possible using the puzzle buddy. Just roll-up your puzzle at end of the session and store; I did store horizontally. There would be a few pieces to put back together when I unrolled the puzzle, but worth the ability to store it between puzzle sessions. My only advice would be to roll from both sides of your puzzle as it does tend to creep on the felt with each roll.
