## Description

.com Giants: Citizen Kabuto is an odd little game. It takes place on a small island populated by short, big-headed people who speak with Scottish accents. They are called Smarties. Out to sea the evil Sea Reapers plot to retake the island for themselves, and they've created a 30-foot-tall monster named Kabuto to help them with their task. To this world come the Meccarins, a trio of humanlike spacemen who wear powered armor and have jetpacks. They arrive and befriend the Smarties against the Sea Reapers, and Kabuto breaks free from Sea Reaper control. All heck breaks loose. Giants was developed by Planet Moon Studios, an offshoot of the wacky Shiny Entertainment studio that brought us Earthworm Jim and Sacrifice. It shows. The between-mission movies are hilarious and filmed inventively (using the game's graphics) throughout. You begin by portraying the Meccs as they puzzle out the new world and help people. Next you portray Delphi, a sexy sorceress Sea Reaper, and finally you get to walk in the massive footsteps of Kabuto himself. The game plays with arcade style; before you're done you'll have flown around and fired weapons, conjured spells, participated in a jet-ski race or two, and eaten just about everything that moves as the giant himself. It's dizzying, it's fun, and you'll never forget you played it. (Note: not for kids--strong language, nudity, violence, and adult humor throughout). --Bob AndrewsPros:3 different sides Brilliant use of style and humor You get to be a giant! Cons:Multiplayer isn't satisfying A few crash bugs exist From the Manufacturer Before there was man, before there was Earth, before there was Planet Moon, there was the Island: a massive fragment of shattered planet hurtling through space. One would immediately think "asteroid" at such a description, but this is by no means a dead piece of rock. Even from a distance, its radiant colors and surrounding waterfalls distinguish it as an anomaly amidst the dark void of space. Around it, decayed and splintered asteroids linger like wailful ghosts, jealous of a true beauty they will never have. On this Eden wanders the solitary giant, Kabuto. As far back as he can remember, this has been his home. From whence he came he does not know, apart from one obscure clue in the form of the serial number 001, imprinted on his stomach. He sits alone and longs for company, but the only thing that has descended from the skies or landed upon the shores is death and destruction. He now trusts no one and guards the only thing that has been constant for him: the Island, his home. And woe to anyone who now sets foot on it! In the surrounding seas is a band of survivors called the Sea Reapers. These women once ruled the Island until they were forced to flee by their own creation: Kabuto. Originally created as a protector against alien threats, Kabuto at first obeyed, but as time went by, he became conscious of his pain, his loneliness, himself. His solitude drove him to madness, and he turned on the Sea Reapers, decimating their numbers and forcing the remainder back to their watery origins. Out of this weakness arose a new leader, the Sea Reaper Queen. Badly damaged from its latest battle in space, the Meccaryn spaceship limps toward the closest landmass capable of supporting life, the Island. From orbit, the aliens scan for any possible threat. There is none, for on this chunk of large but beautiful rock only the most primitive of life forms exists. Perfect! Time for repairs. Taking to their landing crafts, they begin their descent into a world that holds their only chance of survival and, unbeknownst to them, a place where they will face Hell itself. Now, don't let their slight frame fool you. Once encased in their large body armor, they are ready for anything or, at least, feel they are. They love a fight, and over time have learnt how to best protect themselves when going up against the ethereal sea women or that rather large giant who dominates the Island. They must travel in numbers and watch their backs. This teamwork has been the key to their survival, allowing them to hunt for their much-needed fuel and resources.

Hilarious Scenes and Great Gameplay Bring you Back for More

Giants, Citizen Kabuto is quite possibly one of the funniest games I've ever played. It actually caused me to laugh aloud enough times my wife asked me to play in a different room. I've played through GCK so many times I've practically memorized the cut scenes, but the game play and humor keep me coming back again and again. If your looking for a game that mixes a first person shooter, with a dash of RTS, and a healthy dose of English Humor, this game is for you.

    Looking back to the past

It's hard to believe Giants is a decade on now. For those of you who missed it, Giants was part of the boom in hi-tech PC games that came about with the introduction of the GeForce video card series and the departure of 3DFX from the graphics market (a boom that would also give us Black and White [boo] and Max Payne [yay]). For about 5 years after this game, DirectX would make quantum leaps forward and PC gaming ruled the roost, until the affordability and power of seventh-generation consoles became the new standard. As befits the frontrunner of a new generation, Giants is a tremendously flashy, colorful game. It features big open levels with tons of long-range combat and exploration, and in the midgame, base building. In essence it is a cartoony, single-player Tribes, lathered over with tons of shinies and British wit. It even featured some pretty daring use of early lighting shaders that other games wouldn't use so extensively for a few years more (in particular, Kabuto's skin boasts a gnarled, 3D look). In the modern age of Crysis and Skyrim and Battlefield 3, Giants isn't so spectacular as it once was, but it still boasts clever writing, fun combat, and endearing characters. Well worth your time as a trip to when the current era of PC gaming began.PROS-Cute story, fun characters. And yes, there is an ini tweak to take the blue sorceress lady's top off like in the UK version. Don't let your mum catch you.-Dated but still charming graphics.-Inoffensive sound.-Fun gunplay while it lasts.CONS-When you actually get to play as the giant, it's sort of boring.-Once phenomenal graphics now look rather dated (think about like an XBox 1 game).-Terrible balance in multiplayer, which is probably long dead anyway.-Pretty short.
