## Description

USB Audio Capture Card Grabber for Vinyl Cassette Tapes to Digital MP3 Converter, Support Mac & Windows 10/8.1/8 / 7 / Vista/XP: desertcart.co.uk: Electronics & Photo

Review: good device, works as described - works well, can connect it to an android 9 and android 15 phones, via an OTG adaptor. The recording quality sound good to me, when I look at the recorded file graphically it seems to have capture the full frequency range in good detail. also works with a linux desktop, didn't require any drivers to be installed. Seems to work better with headphone level audio, I noticed on one hifi i used it with the LINE OUT seemed to be too loud resulting in clipped audio, but headphone one is fine and allows more control over the recording volume.
Review: Simple Plug & Play on Windows 11 - I have a box of old cassettes, mainly nursery rhymes and stories, that I would like to record to .MP3, but my mini-PC doesn’t have an input socket that would allow me to connect an analogue input. This seemed to be an ideal solution. I already had Audacity installed, and had a rudimentary knowledge of its use, so I ignored the mini-CD and instructions that came with the device, and simply connected it to an old portable cassette player at one end and to a USB port on my Windows 11 PC at the other. I changed the input in Audacity to “Microphone (USB Microphone)”, and started the cassette player. Everything looked OK, so I monitored the recording level via Audacity and adjusted it via the cassette player’s volume control and started recording. It worked fine. Because of the nature of the content I wasn’t really concerned about the quality, but without listening too hard, it sounded fine. In order to pick out particular sections of a tape recording, you need to turn on audible input monitoring, so that you can hear what’s being recorded. Audacity has this facility under Edit/Preferences/Recording , check “Audible input monitoring”. I’ve only used it on cassette, but I would expect it to work with any device to which it can physically connect, a turntable or whatever, and it has a very good set of connectors to facilitate that. Now that I’m satisfied that it will work, I have a winter project lined up to deal with my cassette archive. All in all, I’m very pleased with it for what it cost.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What provides a result with better sound quality -- this USB audio capture device or the tape cassette converters?**
A: I have both. The DigitNow USB Audio Capture converter cable connected to a decent to good stereo cassette deck yields much better and clearer sound quality than the tape cassette converter that I have. The cassette tape converter produces a slightly more muted sound that's similar to but a little more suppressed than playing a cassette tape with Dolby NR activated.

**Q: Can i plug my old gerrard turntable directly into this unit (i.e. into the rca jacks/plugs), or will i need a preamp to boost the line-level?**
A: Actually the reason the highs are more prevalent directly off the vinyl is because in 1954 the Recording Industry Association of America standardized frequency response to minimize bass to allow for more information (~22 minutes) to be stored per side of the LP. The bass is therefore amplified by the amplifier with poles at 50Hz, 500Hz, and 2122Hz. For a high-end setup with a Moving Coil (MC) cartridge you would want to record at 192k samples per second at 36 bits resolution to capture (almost) everything.

**Q: Does it work with macOS 10.14.6 Mojave which is 64 bit?**
A: It does work with MacOS 10.14.16, but there are glitchy things to figure out. For example, you have to plug in the USB before your turn on Audacity, otherwise Audacity will not recognize that the USB is plugged. Also, for Audacity to have access to the internal microphone (so it can accept the incoming sound data), you have to go into Apple/System Preferences/Security & Privacy/Privacy and toggle on the Microphone to give Audacity access to it. It took me about three hours, pouring over postings on help pages to figure all this out. It really should be in the instructions...But once you do this stuff, it works very easily. Audacity puts the recordings into its own format, then you can export them to MP3, etc.

**Q: Does this work as an indirect mic capture through OBS?**
A: Yes
