I read from reviews that a flatbed is the way to go, because of the improved picture quality. The reality is, I would never have the patience for 1000s of photos in a flatbed. It just wouldn't get done. I'm very pleased with the results of this scanner. It doesn't have a ton of bells and whistles, but does a reasonable job rendering photos. Very simple and fast to use once set up. And it gets through them with speed. Even at the slowest settings, it doesn't take much time. Every once in a while I open it up to clean the scanner glass, because dust collects from the old photos. This takes all of 15 seconds, and is super easy. Highly recommend this scanner if you're looking to just get a high volume of photos uploaded without too much effort.
