Maybe I'm a bit old-fashioned. I don't let my 6yo have a DS or even a leapster. I want her to see that there is quality to life beyond what appears on a screen. But as a parent, it's simply a relief to get a toy that does not require batteries, does not make any sounds or have flashing lights. And with no moving parts, it will likely be one of the few toys they pass on to their grandchildren. It is simply there and they can use it or not, interact with it or not, but it's not going to beep because it's not being used or make any sound to say "I'm shutting off because you're ignoring me." It sits there quietly waiting to be used. But it always works when it's wanted. My kids use it however they want. Nothing terribly adventurous or exciting, but it works well for the obstacle course and for sitting in, or for making a cradle for their baby doll or for sorting or whatever they decide to use it for. Will kids spinning and such in them leave marks?** A: If your floors have already lasted 100 years, I think it is safe to say this won't be what does them in. ;) Seriously though, we mostly encourage this toy to be used the rug for safety's sake, but I wouldn't worry about it hurting the floors. They are very smooth plastic and for the size of kids that they're designed for, well they should be pretty light. :) No issues here so far. **Q: I'm so confused as to what exactly this thing does** A: IT essentially does nothing. It is all in yours/your children's imaginations. We have 3 bilibos that my children received probably 4 or 5 years ago and they are still used. Our kids from age 2 to 9 and adults find uses for them. We have seen them used as stepping stools (strong enough for adults), also as stepping stones to get from here to there on all three, bowls, masks, turtle shells, buckets, spinning children and adults, using two to hide an object inside and guess what it is, put tons of toy animals inside a bilibo and everyone chooses their contender and spin it and whoever lands standing up stays in the game and the others are out...you go until the last one is standing, floated them in the pool, mixed "potions" in them, for carrying toys here and there, etc. The first summer after we had them we made of list of everything we came up with to do with them and it was quite a list. Some kids may need some help getting started but once they are the options are endless. Hope this helps! **Q: What is it's size like can a 4 or 5 year old fit in it? Also can they sit in it (legs out) comfortably for TV viewing?** A: I bought the two I have about 7 years ago and yes, my 10 and 8 year old granddaughters can still sit in them. My children, 27m and 8m, love it! *by H***. on April 12, 2010* So, wonder what all the hype is....wonder if your child will love the Bilibo??? Well, the answer is almost always yes. There a few children that may not love it but for the most part, this almost indestructible hard plastic turtle shell like toy requires no batteries, parts or instructions will entertain almost all children. Because of its simplicity, a child must think of how they want to use it. What I did was introduced it to my 27 month old and 8 month old with lots of enthusiasm and tried it as a chair first. Then we twisted them in it, raised them up and down in it like a swing, put it on our heads & looked at them through the holes like a helmet and finally gave them a book and sat them in their new chair for story time. My daughter loves to sit and have snacks & her juice in it. There are so many things you can do with it. Really, the sky is the limit. Now, this is certainly not our only toy but it is refreshing to have a toy that is simply manufactured to do ... well ... anything. It is fairly inexpensive and I don't see it breaking anytime soon.
