Review: worked to fix a cracked fiberglass tub- 3yrs still holding! - so I have a fiberglass tub surround that is about 15 yrs old. the color is white but , you know its not truly white any more. there was a dime sized crack in the shape of a circle near the drain. I knew at some point someone would put enough pressure on that to break it into a hole. time to fix it. I found this product to be very liquid, but a tacky sticky liquid. not anything I had to soften up or knead. in fact, I cut a snip off each packet and squeezed just some out to get started. I mixed them in the tray of the package, then applied a thin layer on the now sanded tub, I quickly dropped down my sized fiberglass ( I frayed the edges as this fiberglass is like the thickness you use for auto body repair, my small repair area was not going to hide that well) I pressed the cloth in, then applied more goop on top. this does self level out. later when it dried I added a second coat to help hide the outline of the cloth. since the bottom of this tub ( which was abused and never cleaned by the last owners) really wont come back to the perfect white it was, and is at the walls, I added just a drop of the ivory. this really made the color match perfect! now, the repair is palpable around the edges but only slightly. it is 100% better looking then the dirty ugly crack was! and really, you only see the repair if you get down in there, I took and posted photos of it.... but I had to take many and adjust the lighting to get the repair to show for you. I found this product easy to work with, tho I have decades of experience in repairs working with bondo, fiberglass and such... but I would say even a novice can handle this job and get a good result. have an assistant to hand you stuff or clean up any mess for you, we had to use a stick pin to remove lost brush bristle in the repair, you may want to have one handy. paper towels were handy. this is a one time use product, but I did get two consecutive applications out of it, but in the same day, and I managed it by mixing just half the product up. it does set up fast. this is nice to fix the crack, and not pay for a whole new tub and surround, or a full refinish job in the kids bathroom. I will update over time and let everyone know how it holds up to use and getting cleaned. Ok, first use, it holds! waterproof seal, I no longer worry that water is seeping under my tub. I posted a new pix of the repair fully dry and cured. this is a rock hard finish. the color really matches well and while its a bit shiny that is mostly because my tub is rather worn. I think you could even use this to fix a chipped white tile! this is such a hard product when dry, I think for the crack I had, I could have skipped the cloth and went with a thinner coat. if you are going to try to fix a chip in your sink, just apply a thin coat, let it level off and dry. it really is cool stuff. its still holding after several showers and we decided to smooth it down to blend better. this worked great, I sanded the edge and then buffed it smooth, now its no longer more shiny than then the tub is and it really blends more. the sanding did not effect the durability at all.
Review: It patched my open hole - I had a jagged hole about 2 in. long and 1/2 in. wide on the soap shelf of my white plastic tub surround. After reading the reviews on here I made sure I used the timer on my phone so that I mixed and used the stuff fast enough before it hardened. Well, my experience was that it took over 14 min. to BEGIN to harden...longer maybe, I stopped my timer after 14 min. since it looked like it was stiffening up finally. I followed the directions and painted the area with a thin layer of the epoxy before putting the fiberglass patch over the hole. Then, thinking I was running out of time, I poured some epoxy over top and spread it around with the brush they gave me. It smoothed out great (via gravity since it was a horizontal surface) but, again, it took a LOT longer to harden than I was lead to believe by reading these reviews (maybe Devcon altered their recipe so it would stay liquid longer?). The edges did stiffen up quicker than the patched area, which had a thick layer, so I can see how a thin application of the goop would maybe harden quick. The problem I then had was the goop kept ever so slowly oozing down over the edge of the shelf and I had to keep brushing off the excess. It must of been a half hour or so before I felt I could finally leave it alone (by the way it smells like dog #$&* this stuff does so ventilate your area real well). I left the stuff to cure overnight (the instructions said 8 hours) and, in the morning it was hard as a rock. I am very pleased with how solid and sealed the repaired area is. My negativity is with how the color of the patched area is slightly yellow compared to the whiteness of the tub surround. The epoxy comes in a packet with a sheer white side and a clear yellow side that you mix together inside the pouch after breaking the seal (very ingenious method I must say) and I'm thinking the slight yellow tint of the end result is from that clear yellow stuff. My other negative remark is how the edges are too well defined around the patch. I thought of taking some sand paper to it and see if I can't feather in the edges to make it look less obvious, but it's just a frickin tub surround. Bottom line is the gaping hole is fixed, I don't have to replace the surround, and I can tell by how hard the patched area is that it will last.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Some of the enamel is lfiting. Will this work around the tub drain?**
A: I would say yes. I was very pleased with how the epoxy hardened. I put a little too much on the side wall during my repair, so the epoxy drooped a little before hardening, but it really fixed the hole. Should do fine arond the drain. Much cheaper than a $200.00 plumber visit! :)

**Q: As I had to apply it on a vertical surface it leaked around the hole. Does anyone know how to remove that now?**
A: Tough thing with epoxy resins is that it flows. The fiberglass cloth, if used properly, can help to control this.Once dry the only way to deal with run off is by sanding. of course this will produce a rough finish. Smooth the finish by using Acetone solvent applied liberally with a q-tip. several attempts may be required. If the fiberglass cloth is exposed then another application of the epoxy resin will be required.

**Q: would this be good to repair a deep groove in the bottom of an old cast iron bathtub?**
A: Yes, this would be a good repair for the bottom of an old cast iron bathtub. However, make the fill repair a little higher than the original surface in order to have enough material to sand flush. Hope this helps.

**Q: Would this work for a shower stall with seat and handle I want to remove handle but than there is a hole were handle was?**
A: Yes. This kit will repair the type of hole left by removal of a handle. I found the best way to smooth out the epoxy is to use wax paper over the top of the repair area and smooth out the finish as the epoxy is curing/solidifying. This method will make the finish smooth and minimize any required sanding for smoothness.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Best Bathtub Repair Kit on the Market
*by M***T on December 6, 2019*

This kit had everything needed to make an excellent bathtub repair. The epoxy was easy to mix and apply. The best thing about this kit is that it has the ability to adjust the color from white to various shades of almond! As one reviewer stated, a little bit of the almond additive goes a long way to change the color. Therefore, it is better to add small amounts of almond until your color matches since once your color is too dark of almond, there is no way to lighten it up. The epoxy is slow to cure, so there is plenty of time to slowly add the almond to match your color. The negative part of this kit is the instructions. Best instruction is to go to U-tube and look for this product. The epoxy drys hard and requires sanding to smooth out after it has hardened. A trick I used on my second application was to cover the epoxy with wax paper (epoxy does not stick to it) to smooth it out with my finger periodically until it drys. Additionally, the wax paper tends to hold the epoxy in place until it drys. Hands down, this is the best all around bathtub repair kit available.
