This did not disappoint. So, if it wasn't what I expected in quality, I was worried about the extra-cost and hassle of returning it, but went with my gut and decided to take a risk. It was well-worth that risk. The pictures do not do this hand-made journal justice.The embossed image on the front has a Goddess-of-the-forest mystical look to it and looks as if it is whispering "fill my pages with your treasured secrets and deepest thoughts, wishes and dreams."The metal clasp has a sturdy design and holds the journal together nicely, but is not difficult to open and close for those who have issues with finger dexterity and strength.Inside, the cover page with the map is a beautiful touch and the subtly-lined paper is quality, so the writing does not bleed through onto the reverse side of the page. My mom loves the little pocket area inside the journal's front cover and will likely keep notes and ideas stashed there. There is also one of those ribbons inside the journal to use as a place-marker.Although I often give journals as gifts, I felt really proud giving this one to my mom. It was a stand-out, that I wrapped with love and the level of care in which it was made and she was really in awe of this journal when opening it.The quality is reflected in the price, but for a special gift for a special person, it was well worth it & I highly recommend it.
