I used it mainly in my garage but I have several throw carpets out there, some are light colors and others are dark. No stains or color change at all. I put the Staticide in a spray bottle and lightly misted the carpets and other items out there. No smell or stains. You don't need to wet anything, just lightly mist. The 2002 Heavy Duty Staticide can be sprayed onto carpet. I sprayed a large room which is about 23' x 23'.
