Review: Definitely a Great Toy! - I bought this toy for Christmas for my 2 kids ages 3yr old boy, & 1yr old girl. I love the fact that it will work with the plastic coins that it comes with as well as real money coins. It will tell you what each coin is for coin recognition. I know my son has started learning the differences even better since we got the toy. Plus my kids love getting to use the scanner. It doesn't have a hand-held scanner but I think this way is better because it's not connected with a cord that will eventually get bent enough to stop working. The scanner rings up new items each time it's pressed and it adds up all of the items for you. You even get to use the "credit card" that comes with the toy and it has you swipe the card and acts as if it's really approving you. It's cute and the kids like it. I also really like that it can be used for younger kids and older kids. For my little girl it's a little over her head as far as the games it has on it because they are counting type games, and being able to recognize coins and the values of the coins. But my little one loves ringing up stuff when they're playing "shopping" and the buttons are larger, nice sized for kids to press. Plus the cash register drawer is very fun for both kids to use. It opens up with just the press of the "open" button and springs open. Some of the reviews I had read said that it opens so fast that all the coins fall out and that it wasn't safe, but I really haven't had any troubles. I'd honestly rather have the drawer open up by itself than to have to pull the drawer open like some of the crappy cheap toys. It doesn't open fast enough to hurt the kids either. Overall, this product has been fun, has provided learning for both my kids, and is a very nice toy to have to play pretend shopping games. I think it's great to learn more about money too for the older kids. It will be a toy we'll have around for quite some time. Luckily it's also durable and isn't going to break for a long time. :) Hope you find this helpful and choose to buy the product.
Review: This one's worth it - Unfortunately, I wasted a little bit (or more) of money this holiday season. I'm glad to say that this particular toy was absolutely NOT a waste. I had the older model for my older kids, but got rid of that one when they outgrew it. Remembering how much they enjoyed playing with it (we even used it for our garage sale), I bought this one for my youngest daughter, who is four. This is an excellent cash register! It comes with a lot of play money and provides hours of learning fun. Really, my daughter just loves playing store, scanning items, using her "Kroger Card" and the credit card. She enjoys hearing the machine say "Credit Approved" (or declined!), and she loves putting the coins in the coin slot and having the register recognize which coin it was. This cash register has many more features than the older one (which I truly liked), and that adds to the play value, I suppose, especially for a younger child. There are some simple math games on this one, too, but the games are really geared to kids just a bit older than 4. However, my daughter has only had this for 2 days and she has already started to grasp some money concepts that she didn't have before. We've gone over coin values and she's undertanding that the paper money has different values, as well-- although we really haven't begun to go over that. And, interestingly enough, she's asked about some of the figures on the bills and the coins. She's especially interested in Andrew Jackson and Abraham Lincoln. This is a great toy. And, as I mentioned before, it really does work as a cash register, as well. So, you can use it for simple sales such as garage sales, lemonade stands, etc.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: does it come with money?**
A: Comes with coins,1s, 5s,10s, and 20s, but only 3 slots for bills. The only problem, it really looks real! I have multiple times thought there was money laying around the house. Finally got used to it and didn't notice when my 3 year old robbed my wallet and was actually playing with my cash!

**Q: Constant message reads CB OPEN. What does this mean? Will not work. Just purchased.**
A: It means the yellow coin bank lid is slightly open. Make sure it snaps closed. Its the yellow lid by scanner and under the coin slot.

**Q: Can you use Melissa & Doug play money with this cash register?**
A: We bought Melissa and Doug play money and it does fit in the register even though M&D $ is a bit longer than the bills it comes with they fit perfectly.

**Q: batteries**
A: What and how many batteries needed?

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Beyond expectations, couldnt be happier
*by L***Y on October 24, 2012*

I bought this learning resources cash register for my 5 year old daughter, in pre-k in the Texas Public school district (which is a whole other issue). I have done a lot of curriculum work with my daughter and when she remained persistent in asking for a cash register, this was among the 3 choices of consideration based on educational value. I have always been fond of Learning Resources, but this register makes me real proud of my selection. She uses real coin money, in conjunction to fake paper money. The coin bank will calculate and identify each coin that passes through the slot. It has 5 different modes, 4 of which are games, for money learning progression; the count bank, coin quiz, addition of coins, subtraction of coins, and money matching. The screen is nice and similar to a calculator, but very simulating of a cash register in a child's perspective. You can pass items over the scanner, it will apply a cost to the item and continue to calculate until 'the customer' pays. Once you decide to close out, there should be also provided a coupon card and a debit card. The coupon can be ran in the card slot and will remove a small amount of purchase. The choice to pay with debit or cash is yours. If debit is selected, you swipe the card; it makes the fancy old school Internet connection sound; wa la! The debit is approved. I was pretty blown away that I got an almost new version of this register, SHIPPED, for $20 from NY. A buck well spent. My daughter now can make simple coin additions, small price identifications, and with both of those can purchase small items we come across at the 'checkout traps'. I believe this would not have been possible nearly as soon without this very constructive, tactile learning method. Happy:) Lindsay Lara
