The hour hand doesn't move unless the minute hand is being moved. There is a knob in the back as well. **Q: do the hands move together?** A: I don't know which clock the other person has but I have the 12" clock with product number PER 2094 and the hands do move together. However, on my clock, they are not fully aligned and there is no way to adjust the alignment because you can't move the individual hands. I have also had a Judy clock in the past and I recommend it over this clock. It is better quality because while the hands move together you can move individual hands if the alignment gets off. **Q: Can you move the minute hand counterclockwise as well as clockwise?** A: Yes! Our Big Time Learning Clock is able to move the minute hand both counterclockwise and clockwise. **Q: What do you mean you can set for when you want them to do something? It does not run on its own correct?** A: If you want them to pick up their toys at 7:30 you set it for 7:30. Etc. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great toy and learning tool! *by A***E on January 25, 2013* I bought this for my 22 month old daughter who is fascinated by watches and clocks. It's a well made toy - my daughter yanks on the hands but they haven't snapped (yet!). There is actually a knob on the back to move the hands around and we're trying to teach her to use that. Thanks to this clock, she already understands that when the big hand is on twelve, it means that whichever number the little red hand is on marks the hour. Whenever she's waiting for her dad to come home, we set the clock to whatever time it is on our wall clock and then I rotate the hands to an hour ahead (or whatever) to let her know her dad will be home when our wall clock looks like the toy clock. Mirroring this toy to the wall clock seems to be an accessible way for her understand the concept of time passing.
