If you are deciding where to start, you cannot do better than with this set of songs. Top to bottom, it stands as one of the best albums of American music ever recorded. This is heartfelt, real music that provides a warm cross-section of the American west, both old and modern. If you like hard rock, Southern rock, alternative country, or folk Americana, then you should love White Buffalo and find several very enjoyable tunes here. Taken together, they are more than the sum.Once in awhile, I come across music that I know is of very high quality, but I don't really like listening to it. Then there's the "guilty pleasure" type music which sounds great or hooks you, even though you know it's crud (at least musically). That pretty well describes plenty of the junk on the charts these days, which pales in comparison. Somehow, White Buffalo fires on all cylinders, so you can have your cake and eat it, too. It's like eating cake with the nutritional goodness of kale.Bear with me for a moment while I use another unlikely analogy. In baseball, a five-tool player is someone who can hit for average, hit for power, run fast, throw well, and play defense in the field. There are baseball players in the Hall of Fame who only were able to do two of those things really well. If a good singer-songwriter is measured by similar elements, then we would have skills like songwriting, vocals, melody, music, etc. I can't even think of five, but you get the picture. Now based on White Buffalo's songwriting and storytelling alone, we have a winner here. These are complex, passionate, story lines that ring with timeless simplicity and capture snapshots at the heart of America. On that basis alone, WB in a few years could be talked about with Dylan or Springsteen. Throw in catchy melodies and high caliber musical talent...now we're talking about a player who should be in the All Star game every year.That brings me to the vocals. Wow! If you like a deeply resonant Eddie Vedder voice, then this guy has it, and he can use that voice like an instrument. The Buffalo can sing crushing, high-octane ballads and tender love songs; sometimes he hits all the gears in the same song. White Buffalo's voice may well be the best and most versatile I have heard in any genre. He can channel Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Bruce Springsteen, Van Morrison, David Bowie, Eddie Vedder, and a dozen others, running circles around most of them. If this dude were singing murder rap, which I hate, then I might very well buy it.Put this all together and what do you get? I believe history will remember White Buffalo as one of the most superbly talented recording artists who has walked the earth. Hopefully, at the end of his career, they also will say that he chronicled America as well as any songwriter (jury's still out now, but he's well on the way). Buy this set of songs and keep it for your grandchildren. If this album isn't a collector's item someday, then there may be something wrong with the human race, 'cause it's that good. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Amazon is the only place I could find the vinyl *by T***A on Reviewed in the United States on August 30, 2016* This album got me hooked on the White Buffalo. I first heard him on Sons of Anarchy and then I bought in when I heard him do a live in studio set on a podcast I listen to. After that I sought his work out and have been consistently impressed ever since. At the time of my discovery this was his most recent work. It has bits of rock, country, folk, and a little bit of everything else.Finally after searching for this on vinyl in my area for a couple of years I decided to purchase from Amazon. The vinyl is great and sound is good. The album packaging itself leaves a lot to be desired, but not enough that I'm going to knock it down a star.He has since released 2 more fantastic albums that any fan of this should give a listen to. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Awesome album from start to finish *by R***R on Reviewed in the United States on August 23, 2020* This album is absolutely excellent from beginning to end. It is rocking, haunting, and moving, and has quickly become my new favorite. It feels authentic and raw, and thought-provoking even while you sing along.
