Miracle Brand **Q: When feeding the kitten, is it necessary to push the syringe or does the suckling alone make it work?** A: When using the Miracle Nipple on a syringe, it actually depends on the situation of the baby that you are feeding. The advantage of using a syringe over the use of attaching the nipple to a bottle (when using a bottle you have no control of how fast the formula comes out) is that you are able to control the flow of the formula. If the baby is a newborn and struggling or trying to refuse to eat, then yes you would push on the plunger very slowly, in our wildlife clinic we will massage the throat to help the animal to swallow and get the taste of the formula, and within a short time the animal will soon realize that this is food. If you have a baby that is very young but extremely hungry, than it would be extremely important to hold the plunger back on the syringe so your baby does not get the formula to fast which would cause aspiration, aspiration can be very dangerous for the animal. When you have an older kitten that is still suckling on a nipple, in many cases they can handle the flow and they will pull the formula through the syringe themselves. Very important to be be aware of is when you change syringe size and move onto a larger syringe, the animal will definately get a larger flow of fluid that it is not use to, so initially when moving onto a larger syringe you will need to hold the plunger back so the formula does not come out to fast. So, please keep in mind that it really depends on the age and condition that the baby is in when you start feeding. Hope this information is helpful. Chris **Q: Do you have to depress the plunger to make them work or does the sucking action alone dispense the milk?** A: Not sure my previous answer made it. If little babies without a mama they need plunger. As they get older then their sucking action takes over.
