The length can be shortened by using the fold over snaps along the waste. I wear them over Levis 505's which fit kinda loose... I'm no lumberjack, but I'm not inexperienced either. You don't normally operate a chainsaw and your strength will fatigue faster than you think which deteriorates your ability to control the saw safely, and conctact with the spinning chain happens in the blink of an eye.
