Applied as a liquid or gel, threadlockers are superior to conventional lock washers, nylon inserts, and other mechanical devices because they secure the entire fastener assembly against loosening from shock and vibration by filling the space between threaded metal parts, curing to form a tough, adhesive bond and seal. Review: I recently had to repair a stripped spark plug thread which involved tapping a new thread and fitting a metal insert . The metal insert was coated with Permatex27200 and fitted into the cylinder head, I left the job for 24 hours to allow a full cure , started the engine up and road tested the motor cycle , all good and i was very impressed.

I'm assuming you are talking about the Permatex (Color Red) RTV high temperature. 
If that's what you are regarding to it will harden as the color red as you see it. Good luck
