Review: One of the best cheap things I've got from desertcart!!!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What would be required to use this with +/-12v RS-232?**
A: Hi:
Firstly, your RS232 interface is probably +3/-3 or +5/-5 VDC and not +12/-12. Many years ago, it was +15/-15 and actually higher for some Industrial and MilSpec applications.
Regardless, the negative voltage levels and/or the +12 will utterly destroy your Logic Analizer's input circuit(s) connected to the RS232 sigs. Maybe the whole thing... Like in, PUFF!
The cure is to use an RS232 to TTL Interface IC between the +/- sigs and the LA's inputs. They are inexpensive, probably available here on Amazon and some are powered by the received RS232 sigs themselves and don't require an external power supply to perform the conversion from +/- received sigs to TTL levels.
Not so when going from TTL to RS232 where you need both a plus and minus supply to conform to the spec.
Actually, some modern RX ICs work just fine when receiving a +3/-0 sig!
Who would have ever thunk it?
As an alternative, you could glue together a voltage devider circuit to adjust a high voltage level to a lower level and add a diode to clip the negative excursion. But, without an O-Scope to look at the sig(s) before you connect to the LA and some hands on electronics experience its probable you'll cause the LA's Magic-Smoke to excape. SO DONT DO THIS!!!!
Google 'RS232 to TTL converter IC' to learn all about the different versions of these ICs. IE: RX only, TX only and RX/TX combo ICs.
FWIW: I've used this LA to poke around Arduinos and other stuffs and was quite pleased with its ease of use and performance. For its price, its a 'No-Brainer'. Buy several! HaHa.....
Also, if you pay attention to what you're doing, you can connect the test clips to the test leads so the clips don't fall off of the leads which is contrary to some critics comments.
Good Luck with your project and watch your SIX so Mr Murfee can't stick it to you!

**Q: Can I count pulse from a flowmeter sensor?**
A: Yes but... The analyzer also needs software to run and analyze the captured signal. This does not come with it. Even with the software installed you'll need to do some manipulations to get your answer. Also the analyzer only wants a 5v Max signal level. I don't know what your flow meter outputs.

I would recommend a fair quality DMM instead. Most will measure pulse frequency and duty cycle. I doubt the flow meter pulse rate is beyond most DMM's range and you don't have to install any software. You'll get a frequency measurement directly and easily.

**Q: How do you connect the wires to the clips?**
A: I took the push pieces out revealing a place with a circle ring like area in the metal sheet. I wrapped thin wire a few times around and through it then put the two pieces back together. It still pressed with it's cycle and completed the connection

**Q: What are the voltage limits for the inputs?**
A: This is a inexpensive knockoff that works very well. I have bought several. It is only meant to measure logic levels of 0 to 5V. It will read 3.3V logic well too. I would expect anything above 7V will damage the inputs.
