But you would have to seal the holes designed for excess water runoff. Actually, you should do that for EVERY product on Amazon.I use this planter in the exact way the manufacturer recommends. Unfortunately, after about 70 days, my unit also fell victim to the 'broken feet' syndrome. One day, all is well. The next day, two broken feet.Obviously(?) the design of this unit needs work. More specifically, they need to change the polymer that they are using for the lower assembly. Changing the polymer and/or the design of the pegged wheels.When the top basket is filled with the prescribed amount of dirt AND water, it gets heavy! Water weighs approximately 8.35 lbs/gallon. And that basket can hold quite a few gallons, especially if the dirt is saturated, which for the most part, it usually is if you are filling it regularly.I had two small lettuce plants and the two pepper plants still remaining. That's not exactly "large plants" by any means. So it's not like it was also carrying the weight of a big beefsteak tomato plant or something.While it was nice to be able to roll it around (more or less), it mostly remained stationary. And for that purpose, all you really need is the top basket. For next season, I'll likely just build my own basic wooden frame and place the basket by itself on top.I really do like the design of the basket, especially how it wicks up water from the base. Using the fill tube is exceptionally easy and the soil is always moist when I check it.So, the basket design gets 5 stars, but the base gets 1 star. Once you load it up with dirt and put water in it, the top can get pretty heavy. The base collapsed under its own weight. My soil is very sandy and even my patio tomatoes grown in potting mix have been failures. This year I decided to go a different route and tried growing in a City Pickers box. I expected another failure, so I only invested in a single box to start.I planted 2 tomato plants (heirloom on the left, better boy on the right) on February 11. By March 11, they were 4 feet tall, so I went out and purchased 2 more boxes and immediately planted a couple sweet pepper plants and an “early girl” tomato plant. At the 2 month mark, my original 2 tomato plants are over 6 feet tall and have dozens of tomatoes growing.
