The slots are about 1/2 wide. The base is 5 inches long and 5 inches wide. **Q: will this work with the wen 4208 8" drill press?** A: Yes. I bought these two items together and it works nicely for small pieces. Keep in mind the drill press is pretty small, so there's a definite limit on the dimensions of any part you put in it, and the clamp limits that further. I don't know the max vertical height of a part it will hold but if you're drilling small bars, angles, etc, these two items work fine together. **Q: Is this vise steel jawed so I can add the soft pads to them. I guess the magnetic pads won't work if they aren't steel.** A: You'd guess wrong, because iron is what makes steel magnetic. Cast iron is very magnetic. **Q: Will this vise fit a porter cable floor drill press** A: Hi Jake. I'm not sure of the model drill press you have but I'll give you dimensions of the vise and you can determine if it will fit. The vise is 5"w x 4-3/4"long. The 4 slots are 1/2"x2". The slots are 4" on center and 1/2" from each side making up the 5" width. There is 1/4" metal between each slot making up the 4-3/4" length. I believe it's made well enough for small work and is fine for my table top drill press. It is smaller than what you will find at Home Depot or LOWES, which were a little too large for my drill press.
