A quad cane, which has 4 legs, with a large base is probably more stable for a 500-lb. person of they will be using a cane for any purpose including balance. A plus is that a quad cane stands up by itself and saved the person from having to lean over and pick it up if it falls easily like regular canes do. That has always stopped the clicking sound for me until the cane gets too worn. **Q: how does it fold?** A: There is a strong cord which runs through the hollow metal of the cane staff, which is actually in four separate sections which fit together, one inside the top of the other. They pull apart and each section can be turned up with the cord running between. In my mind, you can fold a bath towel but this cane is more what I consider collapsible.
