However, generally speaking you will want to clean a Newtonian primary as seldom as is practical. A few water spots on the primary, for example, do not degrade the image significantly enough to warrant attempting to clean its surface. Exposing a primary mirror to any kind of potentially abrasive treatment presents a risk of damage to the mirror.
