I discovered very quickly that this book was not for me. Don't get me wrong. Kelby's book is excellent but it assumes that you already know quite a bit about Photoshop. My husband uses it extensively but he has been playing with Photoshop for years. Through a recommendation of a reviewer on desertcart, I purchased Adobe Photoshop CS6: Teach Yourself Visually. It is the perfect book for someone who is just getting started. I knew it would be good when the first instructions were how to open Photoshop on your computer. The book is well organized. It first helps you to understand the kind of things Photoshop can do. Very quickly I got a good feel for what the tools were and what they could do. Only then did the book begin to show you how to USE the various tools. Instructions are given for both Mac and PC. The book SHOWS you how to do something rather than just telling you. This is a great feature. Sections are short- only two pages in length. Perfect for a quick lesson in something. Just a month after getting this book, I am editing my photos in all kinds of ways. And I feel comfortable doing it. It is true that this book does not teach you everything there is to know about Photoshop. But I don't NEED to know EVERYTHING about it just as I don't know EVERYTHING about my word processor to be able to use it well. The information in this book will keep me going for a long time. So if you are just getting started, I can highly recommend this book. Teach Yourself Visually books have been a consistent favorite of mine for many years. They make learning so much easier for me. I had the "Visual' book for CS5 and this one, for CS6, did not disappoint. I have used this series for many subjects and I can't think of buying any other book as my introduction to any subject. I may buy another bought later but my first book is always a "Teach Yourself Visually". Have you upgraded to CS6?
