These earrings are exactly what I was looking for! I've had my ears pierced for 30+ years and never really had any issues to speak of. I've worn precious metals and costume jewelry with surgical steel posts. However, just recently I started to experience some swelling and itching in just one of my four piercings. I tried keeping them all extra clean, switching from sterling silver to gold, and using hydrocortisone cream. The swelling began to go down and the itching lessened but the piercing seemed to be trying to heal shut. My problem was that I didn't have any earrings that would be comfortable to sleep in, let alone secure enough to wear 24-7. Additionally, the vast majority of my earrings have posts that are smaller in diameter than the piercing studs I remembered as a girl. I decided that the only way to fully heal the problem piercing was to go back to the beginning and wear a piercing stud 24-7 so I can keep the hole open and twist the stud to promote healing, just like I did many years ago when my ears were first pierced. This is only the second day, so I'm unable to report on the actual healing, but I can tell you that these earrings are perfect! They come in sterile sealed pouches. They are beautiful and shiny and the backs click on to the end of the post to keep each earring secure in your ear no matter what you do. They also prevent the post from stabbing the back of your head while you sleep. As expected (& for me, as desired) the posts are slightly larger in diameter than my regular jewelry. However, they are actually quite a bit smaller than I remember. But maybe that's just because I'm bigger now. Lol! The post is much bigger than a standard earring... they are definitely piercing studs we use in the salon **Q: How easy are they to remove?** A: They lock into place. I like them for this fact (they feel more secure). But it can be a pain to remove them at times. **Q: What is the guage of the posts? Thanks** A: The post are larger in diameter than your standard ear studs. They are designed for piercing new holes. I would say .5mm. I had no problem inserting mine into existing holes except for one on each side. It was a little tight but after a couple days no problem. I have 5 holes on each ear.
