It does have an enamel smell to it but it seems that an oil based product is needed to create cells. I would like to mention that I also purchased the white and it went Yellow. I know Resin does 'amber' over time but it was separated. I mixed it the best I could but it did amber prematurely. I can say it does make beautiful cells when other colors go over it. Now as far as the product is concerned it works great, it makes very nice cells when used properly but it’s not affordable when your doing a lot of large art pieces. Just my opinion. I can get the same cells for a fraction of the cost. This product is nothing special. Use silicone you will literally get the same effect.
