Don’t know about the compared set, but these pans are going to last for a long time, even with watercoloring everyday. I don’t watercolor as often as I did at first, but I have only replaced a few pans. Google this set and find where you can buy individual refills. Amazon doesn’t like competition or I’d put the company name, but then they might not publish this response. See if you can buy refills for the other set, if not, grab this one and google refills for it, it’s in the US. **Q: Are these opaque enough so you can "go light over dark" with them? The colors are vibrant and on linen watercolor paper, there is a nice sheen, not distracting, I have read that is to be expected when using watercolor paints with honey as a component. The more I use this brand of pan paints the more I like them. I hope that I will be able to purchas the individual pans when they need replacing. I have not been disappointed. I use a ceramic plate to mix the colors. When using a plastic pallet the color beads up. I don't know if this is normal for I am just a beginner. I've bought different sets of "metallic" colors by different brands & would say these are among the better ones. The color picks up easily (no scrubbing) and gives good coverage. On black paper the paints have a real metallic finish, rather than merely pearlescent. The colors are noticeably different, despite most of them being Gold. The price is reasonable.
