I put vinegar and essential oils in them for cleaning. I had another brand where the nozzle stopped working after about 10 sprays and even when it did "work" it came out in a stream. **Q: Do these work with olive oil?** A: The mist spray setting DOES NOT work with oil. It shoots out as a stream of oil. So both settings stream oil. **Q: What is the advantage to using glass spray bottles rather than plastic?** A: This tinted glass bottle will keep your essential oils from UV damage according to the Seller's product information. The sprayer/reusable mister is advertised as being BPA and chemical free; usable for all your liquid sprays ~ which is the reason I purchased from this Seller. I am loving my bottles and use them for multiple mixtures such as cleaning and beauty products. Glass is the way to go if you want chemical free and clean mixtures. **Q: Are these food safe? Can be used for balsamic vinegar?** A: The Seller says the product is lead and BPA free and the sprayer is a clean chemical free reusable mister for all your liquid sprays. I do use vinegar with mine, tho not balsamic.
