I Guess the cubes are too small to catch his attention or rather to make a creation substantial to sustain his interest would take a Long time. If you are thinking he can follow the card and build the same model, it is very difficult for toddlers to follow thru, they have no patience. I would recommend Magformers ( the big square pieces) make impressive designs that are big and easily attachable by magnets. Another one is the junior engineer building set from GIGO that he enjoys using the hammer to knock in the screw etc. My four year old loves these 2 toys and easily play for 20 mins to half an hour each session. The other alternative for learning resource for the same concept is "Mental Blox" - this game easier for 3 year old. Learning Resources also have the Primary Science 12 piece lab set which my sons enjoys too, can play up to 45 mins before he gets bored. As others have noted in earlier reviews, they are somewhat small, but I think they're fine for little hands. The cards are also great. It's true that the colors are a bit off -- I think it's that the orange shows up reddish on the cards, but I can't remember exactly.
