Strategy might make it easier *by B***A on Reviewed in the United States on August 28, 2018* Worked well to change up the three in-line pins to a 1 on top, 2 on bottom pin arrangement. I had the best luck putting the adapter onto the back of the new smoke alarm and then plug the existing connector into that. Getting the new adapter to click in to the alarm requires strong thumbs and it's awkward to try to do it while standing on a ladder, sweating and holding onto two things at once.
