But then it stopped working, and I didn't bother to unplug it right after I noticed it was not working. Later, it melted leaving a burn mark on the outlet plate. Here's a typical device: 56653 Night Light (auto On/off) There is an area on my kitchen counter which sees the most activity where I like to have a night light. Because of the irregular lighting there the photosensitive night lights can't 'make up their minds' as to the lighting need and blink on & off incessantly, a very, very irritating effect.This gadget works on motion sensing, so it will turn on & off according to a person's presence. It fits the need perfectly. It is way pricey, but since it uses led's it should last for years.I've been using the Sentina Smart Rechargeable LED in several areas in the house with great results. Unlike the Rechargeable units, this device being reviewed has no battery backup and cannot be used as a flashlight in case of power outages.But it works just fine as a better (if pricier) alternative to photosensitive night lights. Highly recommended if you have the coin to afford one. It should last many years. The light never completely shuts off, it keeps 1 or 2 LEDs lit at all times, it turns on all 15 LEDs when it senses motion. Its motion sensor is very sensitive and works at 8+ feet, it stays brightly lit for ~2 minutes. It is very bright and provides low light for almost the entire basement. It does not turn on if there is ambient light. There is an adjustable mirror on top of the unit to direct the light. It can be hung upside down to minimize LED light strain on your eyes, and it leaves the other outlet free.
