It'll work on the big rectangular decora switches, you have to snap out a couple plastic pieces first through. Works with the older, smaller blade style ones (what I have) without problems too right out of the box. Once installed it puts a quick flip up door over the switch. The door snaps shut. There's a spot for a lock, but I have no idea who that would actually keep out other than a toddler or something. I wouldn't call this a security device at all. No more accidentally turning the furnace off. Keeps old lady happy (and warm). No more crazy mornings because of a switch. I have it to cover a toggle switch that turns on my garbage disposal. My dog accidentally turned it on jumping up near it. It is a little difficult to lift the cover and then it comes off but not too bad to put back on. Better than having the pup start the disposal with my hand in there to retrieve something.
