I used the hot water, mallet treatment the first day and have been throwing a ball into it daily. It is now broken in nicely and feels like it was made for my hand.It does take work to break it in but I consider it fun. It serves the same purpose as a stress ball for me.If your kid is having trouble breaking it in, just get him a ball and have him spend an hour a day while watching TV throwing the ball into it.
