Review: I am happy. - I installed this in a 2014 S550. Everything was plug and play despite no directions besides for a short print out with some basic troubleshooting steps. Few things to note: -You will have to remove and relocate the switch panel between this and the gauge cluster. It comes with an extension cable. I ran it to my glove box. Ot a huge deal since I never used it much (ride height, gauge cluster dim, parking sensors on/off) -Wireless CarPlay works flawlessly the unit boots up and about 30 seconds later CarPlay starts and connects on its own -Rearview camera did not work out of the box. I had to dive into the menses and change it to use the built in camera -The wireless microphone cable that comes with it is about 3 feet limiting where you can mount it and people tell me I sound “far away) you may want to order a higher quality microphone with a longer cable -Sound quality is great but I feel it’s not as good as before using the headphone aux input, maybe that issue is in my head who knows but I swear the quality is slightly reduced If you buy this get some plastic panel removers. You do now want to be using a screw driver to pop your trim off. The trim in Mercedes is extremely tight.

The install is pretty straightforward, but the customer service that they provide when you ask a question will get you through any issues that you run into. The customer service answered every question that I, they did not skip any question. Gave full detail video, and pictures of what I should do with the issues I ran into. I been installing for a long time now and was worried because it’s a few wires that didn’t get plugged back into anything. But I was able to contact the customer service and they walked me right through it, assuring me that the wires did not need to be connected to anything. I would highly recommend this product if you’re looking for a good quality, audio video upgrade for older Mercedes-Benz.

I would have given this item 5 stars if I had not run into some significant problems that I ended up resolving myself given that their Technical Support could not come up with anything but the very basic troubleshooting items that lest I addressed myself early on, I would have ended up returning the item to Amazon. In my case, what troubled me the most, were two issues (Thus, I deducted one star for each because I considered them significant.) First, the user manual is so lacking in basic information that it is nearly useless. The manual has a preface encouraging everyone to have the kit installed by a "professional." I consider myself a professional and still spent nearly three days just trying to decipher what did what and what needed to be plugged where. Their technical support was no support at all. If you buy this, know that you are on your own if you have any problems that you are unable to resolve. Unless you are comfortable with your knowledge about your car and how the new Android unit will, or should, integrate with the existing Mercedes ones. Do not try to do it yourself. You will require sufficient knowledge to be able to sort things out on your own. If you lack that knowledge, you are in for an eye-opening experience. This will vary from model to model, but prepare yourself in any case. The manual "alludes" to certain settings after the unit is installed, but in reality, if you run into a problem with them, you will essentially be told to try one setting after the other until it actually works. Right. You will find the settings to be numerous and in most cases you will have to decipher what they actually mean before you want to try one of the other. Particularly the Factory Settings. Even though I am competent (Especially with Mercedes-Benz) many of the "Factory" settings were impossible to figure out before spending some time with the Chinese-to-English translations common to many Chinese products that include English manuals that are simply translated word by word, and where the end results are meaningless if not comical. Even so, be aware that the manual is severely lacking and severely incomplete as it pertained to the installation and function of the unit and not to the car itself. While it clearly states on the webpage that my car model and year (2012 CL63 AMG W216) are applicable to this unit, I promptly found out that neither of the two Audio Out connectors will produce any sound, but rather, I needed to purchase a long enough Din cable that needed to be plugged into the harness and then, route to the glove box and connected via an adaptor, to the AMI connector on the top of the glove box. A connector that is not mentioned at all in the user/installation manual. Fortunately, I had that particular Din to AMI adapter as well as an audio cable long enough to reach the glove box. Even then, you will need to be very creative in running that cable as well as two additional USB cables because you will find every area in the dash of your Mercedes (at least it was in mine), is self-enclosed and there are no openings to run any wires (Including the GPS antenna and secondary microphone) that would facilitate it without being destructive to the dashboard. I had to find a way to the bottom of the dash on both the driver's side (For the microphone and GPS antenna, and the passenger side for the audio cable for the glove box and a place under the dash where the two additional USB ports would be reasonably accessible. Not so simple when the USB cables are way shorter than they need to be for easier access. The other problem that nearly had me sending everything back, is the fact that in installing a screen that is much larger than the original, the panel to the left of the screen that includes three push buttons - one turns off the passenger side airbag, a second one raises or lowers the car when necessary, and the third one, sets the suspension from Comfort to Sport and vice versa - is replaced by a virtual panel that pops up to the left of the Android screen with the same three "Touch Screen" settings and while it did pop up, the three icons did not work. At least in my case, when I disconnected the OEM screen, the SRS system sent a fault code to the ECU that when starting the car, the "Check Engine" light stays on. Because I did not want to put everything together until I knew everything worked and would fit, the "Check Engine" light was always on as normal when only turning on the ignition. when asking "Technical Support" why the three virtual buttons did not work, I was told to turn off the ignition, open and close both doors and let the car sit overnight. Uh? Are you kidding me? I just checked for fault codes in the ECU as a last attempt before tearing everything out and returning it to Amazon. I am glad I did because, sure enough, it listed SRS codes. Once I cleared them from the ECU, the virtual buttons worked perfectly. And when I was done with the installation, the "Check Engine" light turned right off. I could not believe that I was the first customer to have that problem and the fact that they did not provide me with the correct solution. The new screen is now installed and working satisfactorily. But there is much to learn about how to operate it. Especially where the use of the Mercedes Benz rotating knob works erratically and sometimes, not at all. That is a problem because it is very hard to drive and use the touch screen for the majority of the selections. Something that is not conveniently mentioned on the Amazon web page OR the owner's manual. You just have to try it and hope it works depending on the app you are using. Because I opted to install a SIM card in the unit, I don't have to rely on my phone to run the various apps when set as a Hot Spot. As a result, I still use the Mercedes Command screen to make phone calls and receive them. Lest you do that, when you press the Voice Command button on the steering wheel, it will respond that no phone is connected. In short, be prepared for a lot of changes that are not as effective or efficient as the Command system in the car. In closing, as I told the manufacturer of this unit, the system could have been much easier to install and operate with very little effort on their part. I.e a good User/Installation manual, and better software that allows the Android system to fully integrate with Mercedes' Command system. Of course, since all the sound is routed by way of the Aux audio out, it is still superb as it came from the factory. The kit includes a small speaker that makes no sense to use. Admittedly, the larger screen is very good and it definitely allows HD video to display. Again, this could have been a 5-star product if it did not lack in areas that it simply should not. Just be aware that the User/Installation manual is as useless as the support that you will receive when reaching out to the manufacturer for help. And you will. I will try to set mine up as best as possible over the next month or so and will update my review at that time.
