The kit aspect of it is good practice if you need to hone your soldering skills or begin programming chips. (Playing with the MAX7219 is fun!) My only real gripe is the electrolytic capacitor is too tall and doesn’t let the matrix unit fully seat. It seats in well enough to operate, but I’d rather not see exposed pins sticking out of the headers. Guess I could pop in a shorter cap if it comes down to it. It’s no better or worse than any other low-priced imported circuit kit. And it powers on and works, which is all anyone can ask, right? ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good value *by J***E on Reviewed in the United States on June 27, 2019* These work as expected and are easy to control and combine to make a bigger matrix. The only problems I ran into are that first it’s not obvious which way the LED should go and the packaging wasn’t great, so a lot of pins were bent. As far as the LED orientation is concerned, if it doesn’t work, just flip it. Though if, like me, you don’t know if your code works it can be hard to know if the LED is backwards or you have a bug... Another minor issue is that the black ink on the LED matrix wears off easily if you remove the protective film. ### ⭐ Poor kit component QC. *by G***. on Reviewed in the United States on November 17, 2021* LED Matrix was 1088AS, row - common cathode; column - common anode. The PCB and IC MAX7219 are wired for 1088BS(?) row - common anode; column - common cathode. Photo 1 shows "conversion" wiring to get it working. Basically swap pins 9,13;14,3;8,4 etcFig 2 shows one LED matrix with bad LED.package had a contact of support@hiletgo.com.
