Make sure you have adequate ventilation space-it needs airflow because it will get hot. I bought a fan for it (Aircom T8) and its helped a great deal. Combined with the Yamaha CXA 5200, its sonic nirvana, should have done it long ago. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great choice in this price range *by B***E on October 11, 2014* There are two ways I think about high-end electronics - one is about absolute performance, the other is about performance per dollar. Some brands take a no-holds barred approach and deliver performance regardless of cost. Of course, people have different tastes in what sound should be, so there's certainly room for differences of opinion, but once you cross a certain line, all the products tend to sound fantastic. While Acurus isn't exactly a budget product, it does come very close to that line of "best of the best" at a much lower price than some of the competitors. It's expensive, but it still offers a lot of value for the money.At 55 pounds, this is medium-sized for products in this class. Construction quality is good, with plenty of heat sink and beefy metal chassis. One of the key things I like about the Acurus is that it tends to run cool, even when rack mounted. I also like the network based setup - essentially, the device has a built-in web server...you point your browser to it to set it up. It's also drop-dead simple to integrate with most home automation systems - a definite plus for me.One small thing I don't like is that the amp lacks balanced XLR-style inputs. If your processor/preamp have balanced outputs, they are often good for a slightly better SNR, and if needs be, you can run longer cables than you can with traditional RCA cables.As far as sound quality, I'd say the Acurus is pretty much equal to all but the most esoteric audiophile amps. It's fast and powerful (200WPC at 8 ohms...not mentioned in the Amazon description), with a nice solid and open presence and lots of headroom. I'd say it's slightly better at movies than music, but that's just my taste as I like warmer amps for music.One of my systems has Martin Logan electrostats - notoriously difficult to drive, requiring gobs of power. Happy to say that t he Acurus drives them as well as any other amp I've tried over the years.I'm lucky enough to have several listening environments between my homes and business, so I can compare the Acurus to a few systems I know well.My "budget" system has a Cambridge Audio Azur A/V receiver, and I'll say that with the right pre/pro, the Acurus beats this one handily in terms of sound quality. I'd say that this would be true for virtually any A/V receiver - in a balanced system with quality components and speakers, the Acurus will sound notably better.Compared to my Carver Cinema Grand, the results are much closer. Overall, I probably prefer the Carver for music and the Acurus wins for movies. The Carver is warmer and somewhat quieter (perhaps due to those XLR inputs), while the Acurus is somehow clear and fast. An important point is that the choice of pre/pro is important - I've seen with other systems I've built that there are some better matches than others. My Carver is driven by a Lexicon pre/pro...perhaps the results would be different with, say, an Anthem or some other brand.I also compared the Acurus to a system powered by McIntosh monoblocks...at low listening levels, the Acurus held its own, but as the volume goes up, it gets pretty clear what you get from a "price is no object" manufacturer. Still, the McIntosh system costs over 10x what the Acurus does, so perhaps it's not a fair fight.Bottom line is that I'd of course recommend auditioning any amp you might like, but if your tastes run towards neutral, fast and powerful, then the Acurus is definitely worth a look. It will be hard to beat without spending at least double. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ End Game Amplifier *by J***R on October 26, 2018* We had the Acurus 125x5 for years which is a great amp. It's Big Brother- The A2007 is in a league all of its own being more beefy and powerful. Just 2 days runing (not even burned in yet) and the new life it sends to the speakers is jaw dropping (or ear dropping) ok straight up Ear Candy! Detail in some of the regular music in my line up has come to a new level. Set up was easy and having the extra 2 channels will be nice down the line when I get ready to add more speakers.. I think this will be the last amp my living room will ever see...or hear~~Build is second to none, like a little tank. Looks great sounds amazing!
