It gives you a good walking workout if you can't or don't want to walk outdoors, making it very convenient to use while watching TV. The red knob allows you to adjust the range of motion to give you a smaller or larger step. I have the red knob set to the maximum range of motion to give me a larger step, but just keep in mind that your step count won't be as high as if you set the knob to a smaller range of motion. I have not yet used the app, as I'm a person that doesn't like to have to download an app and create an account for everything. But, I have been very pleased with the built-in computer screen on the machine, as it seems to do an effective job of tracking my steps taken, calories burned, and amount of time spent on the machine. Plus, it is also very easy to reset the computer at the end of your workout by simply pressing and holding the small red button on the screen. The machine seems to be durable and high-quality, so I expect that it should last for a while. Given the price, I'm not expecting this to last for years, but it seems to be a decent piece of workout equipment for the low price it is. I strongly recommend wearing shoes while using the machine, as opposed to using it in socks or bare feet. You'll likely slip if you just wear socks, and you may hurt your feet and toes if you use it in bare feet. If you misstep while getting onto the machine, it can hurt your feet. Any suggestions?** A: This review helped me solve this issue. "After you pull it out of the box, you need to put the two pedals up and rest the unit standing on the front leg and top meter. Make sure you have the meter facing away from you. This will allow you access to the tension knob #11 located under the center bar. [Pull the pedals up so the tension rod is showing and] Adjust the cable fit around the wheel then tighten the knob. The cable may look a little loose around the wheel, but it will tighten when you place the unit flat on the floor and put the pedals down.To test if you did it correctly, one pedal will go up when you push the other down. If it is not working, put the unit back up on the front bar and make sure the cable is seated properly on the wheel." **Q: Can I use this if I am seated on a chair, or do I have to be standing?** A: I tried it - I guess it depends on height of the chair. Don't make the same mistake I did, and be sure to wear shoes! :) ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Almost great *by S***S on June 5, 2023* I bought this on a whim to counteract all the sitting I do for work, and have been happily surprised by how easy it is to get some decent steps in (but bummed about the one negative...mentioned further down). This is pretty much ready to go out of the box, so no real set up to speak of. I'm not really using the arm bands. There is a tension knob so you can adjust how easily the pedals go up and down. It actually provides a pretty good work out so long as you put in the effort. I currently use it for around 30-40 minutes at a time, sometimes twice per day. You can easily watch television or listen to podcasts while stepping. The benefits are that you can get your steps in no matter what time of day or what kind of weather. Overall, it would be great, except... ...this thing now SQUEAKS LIKE CRAZY. It started out fine but after just a couple of weeks of use, one pedal started squeaking, then the other one chimed in a few weeks later, so now with every step there's a corresponding high-pitched squeak. We've tried using some WD40, but the noise is seemingly coming from inside the little pistons under the foot pads, so the added lubricant did nothing to diminish the noise. If you live in an apartment, this could be a problem. I'm using it a level above our basement, so it isn't bothering anyone unless someone is down there--but, it's definitely noisy, and if someone else is in the same room or in the vicinity, it's annoying. It's a shame, because otherwise I've been really happy with the quality and functionality. The manufacturer needs to figure out this defect.
