How do you install it?** A: I did not need a plumber to install this, which is not surprising since I also did I need a plumber to install my garbage disposal or the 55 gallon water heater in my basement. **Q: So, is the diameter 3 1/8" or 3 1/2"? I see both answers, which doesn't make sense since there's not a size choice option.** A: It's 3 1/8. Both sizes will fit. I found a far better replacement at one of the large home supply stores.It a heavy plastic with multiple holes for water drainage. It acts the same as the Insinkerator, but is easy to clean,keeps the sound low, and will not break, or smell. Cost is around $4.00.
