For my space, a straight line single inlet was adequate. I added a noise suppression canister so that acts as my 8” inlet. For your purposes, it’s just a matter of how much space you have between joists, and even more so, between the flooring above and the drop ceiling. The fan itself will work fin in that environment if it fits physically. Depending on your space, you might be fine with a single 8” inlet (or whatever size matches your fan). If you need an additional inlet, keep them in a straight line if at all possible and make the one farthest from the fan smaller. So if you have an 8” fan, you’d step the duct down to 6”, then a 6” inlet at the end of that, step the duct down again to 4” and have a 4” inlet at the very end. **Q: Do you have to use controller or just plug fan in on a switched circuit?** A: When I plug into the outlet without the controller, the fan runs. Not sure if it is set to the max setting. In case your controller is broke or want it to run continuously. **Q: I need to mount this outside to blow air into a small space. Can it tolerate getting rained on?** A: Yes you can mount it outside. As long as you properly shield the unit from the elements this fan will work beautifully to bring the outside air in, which is precisely what I did. I created a window mount by using flat pieces of plywood that I cut a hole through that's just large enough to fit the Infinity cloud line t8 through a double hung window (actually the slightest bit larger) that I filled in the gap with gaff tape for a solid gasket seal. To shield it from the rain and snow I built a roof that slopes at a 45 degree angle so that all the moister jets off the enclosure. I filled in the triangle on the side so that all the intake air comes from the bottom of the unit where I installed a screen to keep all the insects out. Finally to create a lasting seal I added silicon to all the joints including a piece of plexiglass that I attached to the 45 degree slope roof so that it is set for decades of whatever the outdoor weather presents. I have been operating this fan with this method for about 2 years including during heavy rains for days on end. I have had zero problems, and you will too provided you follow my instructions as a guide. This is the best possible window fan that could ever be created and has the huge advantage of being able to employ a flexible duct to direct the flow of air wherever you want it.
