I added extra security from slippage by laying a waffle rug/placemat/seat cushion gripper material over the bedframe. It is very secure and I use it for my cpap machine and electronics. With the gripper and a tight clamp, it appears to hold a substantial weight. The cup holder is simply a raised lip that is pretty much unhelpful for keeping a liquid secure and upright. The slotted area works well for holding electronics and allows for extra room to place other items such as books.
